ENGINE

The MULE 610 4x4 is powered by a 401cc, 4-stroke, OHV, fan air-cooled engine. Simple, compact, lightweight, and durable, the engine is extremely reliable.

U.S. produced engine is a modified version of FJ400 engine sourced from the highly respected Small Engines division of Kawasaki.

For use in the MULE 610 4x4, the engine receives higher performance intake and exhaust passages, larger valves, and higher compression.

Overhead valves designed for efficient running and good fuel economy, are durable, and operate quietly.

Highly efficient carburetor delivers excellent fuel economy.

To ease cold starting, a choke cam holds the throttle open 20% when full choke is applied.

A cyclone-airflow-type air cleaner is fed via a snorkel intake routed through the overhead cab frame providing the engine with a steady supply of clean air, even in dusty conditions.

Crankcase breather routes blow-by back to the intake pipe for cleaner emissions.

Engine can be started in gear if the brake is applied – just like Kawasaki’s ATV and Teryx models.

Sensor mounted in the engine crankcase monitors oil temperature to warn the driver of overheating.

Gear driven engine balancer controls engine vibration.

CHASIS

Modern styling gives the MULE 610 4x4 a rugged appearance. Curved surfaces and lines contribute to a high-class design and improved shape and fit of various parts give a high-quality finish. Elegantly styled fenders and bodywork strike a perfect balance between rugged functionality and great looks. Automotive-style instrument panel also contributes to the highclass image.

Independent MacPherson strut-type front suspension allows each wheel to track over
uneven ground for maximum traction with light steering effort. Minimal wheel camber change throughout the suspension stroke contributes to stable handling.

MacPherson strut design provides more foot room for the driver and passenger.

Rack-and-pinion steering provides precise, easy handling, and a tight turning radius. Ackerman steering geometry reduces tire wear.

Front tread dimension of 1051mm (41.4 in) ensures easy loading between the wheel wells of pick-up beds.

Rear unit swing axle suspension design features coil-over shocks with stepped preload adjustment.

Four wheel, auto-adjusting, hydraulic drum brakes offer the safety of automotive style separation for front/rear brake fluid.

Front and rear brake drum seals are triple-lipped for water and mud resistance.

Cable operated parking brake works on both rear wheels.

Meaty 24” tires with new tread patterns provide great off-road traction, ensure ample ground clearance and complement the pickup-truck styling. Front: 24 x 9-10; rear: 24 x 11-10.

Skid plates for the front differential, engine and rear differential are fitted as standard equipment. Centre skid plate greatly reduces the chance of getting stuck when driving over obstacles.

Automotive style dash is good looking, easy to understand, and provides a quality look.

Rear differential lock/unlock lever, 2/4WD selector, and transmission shifter are in plain view and easy to reach.

Dash includes warning lights for parking brake and oil temperature, 10 Amp (120 watt) accessory plug, key switch, headlight switch, hour meter, choke knob, and forward storage release knob.

Sealed glove box lid keeps small items handy and dry.

Chassis is pre-wired for the optional, electric speedometer with odometer. Just mount the speedo into the dash, insert the sensor into the rear final drive, and plug in the wires.

Stylish front hood flips open to reveal 48 L sealed storage compartment.

Convenient cup holders are molded into the body on either side.

Space is provided for a 3000 lb. winch to be mounted with optional brackets.

Scratch resistant TPO (thermoplastic olefin) body panels maintain their new look longer. Colour is molded in.

Body colored cab frame can support a variety of optional items such as windshield, sun shade, headrests, and cabin.

Plastic panels below the seat on either side complete the rear fenders and provide stylish covering for battery, gas tank, wiring, etc.

Large, 15.5 litre fuel tank gives the fuel efficient MULE 610 4x4 ample operating range.

Steel construction, tilting bed uses spring-loaded latches on the tailgate for a positive hold.

Large cargo bed inside dimensions measure 1,044 x 900 x 245 mm. Bed is rated for 181 kg (400 lb.) capacity.

Maximum permissible vehicle load including riders and cargo is a heavy 420 kg (925 lb.).

TRANMISSSION

The MULE 610 4x4 was the first utility vehicle in its class to offerselectable 2WD/4WD. Beltdriven automatic transmission with a dual-rangetransfer case (High-Low) gives the 610 4x4 excellent off-road ridingcapability. Two forward speeds to choose from lends flexibility whenhill-climbing or hauling heavy loads.

Tough, KVF360~750 style transmission features fewer parts and a single shift fork for smooth operation when shifting.

Reverse is accomplished by heavy-duty, multi-linkplate chain deleting the need for an additional reverse idler shaft.

Stepped gate shifter is easy to use with R-N-H-L shift pattern.

Transmission mounted governor smoothly limits maximum vehicle speed to 40 kph (25 mph) by adjusting throttle opening. Full engine power is available until the vehicle approaches top governed speed.

Speed governor is driven by the transmission input shaft rather than by engine speed to offer more accurate speed control.

Input shaft mounting also allows for engine speed governing – even in neutral.

CVT

Compact CVT (similar to KVF360~750 models but smaller) developed specifically for the MULE 610 4x4 offers wide ratios, high performance and added serviceability.

CVT offers extremely wide operating ratios for a variety of driving conditions.

All sheave surfaces are high pressure cast of high silicone content aluminum for best durability.

High performance double cog belt offers very long service life.

Drive CVT uses four ramp weights and adjustable spider buttons for smooth operation. Many service parts (buttons, bushings) are common with the KVF models.

Cooling fan incorporated into the drive fixed sheave draws filtered air from the top of the cab frame.

Driven CVT Sheave width (for belt deflection) can be adjusted without disassembly.

Changing different thickness adjustment washers under two external adjustment bolts allows very fine control of the driven sheave width for best belt adjustment. Install thicker adjustment washers as the belt wears.

Internal thrust washer evenly distributes the adjustment force within the driven CVT housing.

CVT cover with reusable seal offers wet riding performance not possible with some competitors’ offerings.

Internal baffle in the outer CVT cover helps to evacuate any water or debris that may make its way into the cover.

FINAL DRIVE

Limited-slip front differential (based on the KVF400 4x4) contributes to good handling over rough terrain, providing great traction with low steering effort. Rear differential lock allows the rear wheels to be locked for maximum traction in mud or snow. Grounddisturbance is minimized when unlocked.

Locking rear differential, governor, and 2/4WD bevel drive are integrated with the transmission into one casing.

With a single casing it is possible to finely control component tolerances while substantially reducing complexity. Single drivetrain oil level check is more convenient.

Selectable 2/4WD is a Kawasaki exclusive in this size category.

4WD is engaged in the rear bevel housing like the KAF620 however the 620 style cam damper is not required in this model.

Locking rear differential provides full traction in slippery conditions. Unlocking the differential allows for minimal ground disturbance on fragile surfaces such as lawns and trails.

Lock/Un-Lock selector for the differential is dash mounted for easy use.

Front limited slip differential has its roots in the KVF300/400.

Single sided LSD clutch pack provides the same performance as a two sided system.

New style, 500 CV joints allow a very tight turning circle even with the 4WD equipment.

OPTIONAL PARTS

The traditional options include such items as cab, speedometer, windshield, trailer hitch, headrests, under seat storage, etc.

Off-road type accessories include items such as: brush guard, skid plates, 3000 lb. class winch mount, headlight/taillight guards, etc.

Chassis is pre-wired for the optional, electric speedometer with odometer. Just mount the speedo into the dash, insert the sensor into the rear final drive, and plug in the wires.
